Are VPNs legal in India in 2026?
Yes, VPNs remain legal to use in India. However, CERT-In rules (April 2022) require VPN providers to log user data for 5 years — which is why most major providers (NordVPN, Surfshark, ExpressVPN) moved servers out of India.
Which VPN is fastest in India?
In our Delhi speed tests, NordVPN (NordLynx) consistently hits 400+ Mbps on 1Gbps Jio Fiber, followed by Surfshark (WireGuard) at ~350 Mbps. Proton VPN is slower but has the strongest privacy record.
Which VPN unblocks Hotstar / Netflix India?
NordVPN and Surfshark reliably unblock both. For Hotstar (Disney+), use a US server. For Netflix India content from abroad, India-virtual servers in Singapore work in 2026 — most providers no longer host physical Indian IPs.
What happened to VPN logs under CERT-In rules?
In 2022 India required VPN providers to keep 5-year logs. NordVPN, Surfshark, Proton, ExpressVPN and most others closed physical Indian servers and moved to India-virtual servers in Singapore/UK/US — where CERT-In jurisdiction does not apply.
